2 Lever control for 1 lever

Can a classic 2 lever OMC control box be substituted for a single lever control, as used on my ’83 Evinrude 70hp 3 cyl? Mine doesn’t have trim or tilt, but the elec start key is in the control box.

maybe put the key in the dash. then use the 2 lever box.

Well, it can be done, but the question is why would you want to do that…. Using the two lever box will allow shifting above dead idle speed which may cause problems….
