As shown in the video, the points are arcing just about every
time they close. Still produces a hot spark. I’ve heard that the
wrong capacitance could cause this? Any suggestions would
      be appreciated.

        What you’re experiencing in normal.
Have you run yours on a boat yet?
Wire to the points looks good.
Did you do the coil repair?

I’m momentarily using one of the military coils in
the 3d printed housing. Original one is getting worked
on. I have not run it on a boat yet. If everything goes
right I will be doing that this weekend.

Check your timer case here for a crack.

Thanks for the reminder. I know for a fact that it was cracked, but I got it welded up.

Tubs, why do you run your motors on the side of your boat?

To reasons. 1- I’m old. With the motor off to the side and an extended tiller
I don’t have to twist around so I’m not uncomfortable & 2 – there is room for
a motor on the other side so if the one I’m running quits (not uncommon when
taking motors out for the first few times) I’m not rowing back.

I see your under 18. I looked to see what else you have been up to and found
your LightFour Imperial post’s in doskside. Then I looked you up in the
Membership Roster and you’re the only Freeman listed. Are you getting these
motors running again all on your own?

I wouldn’t say all on my own as I have had quite a bit of help from aomci members, but as for family, yes. My family has always been boaters, but my father doesn’t mess with old stuff, and my grandfather has always been an inboard guy.

So your a gear head. All you have to do is look at this stuff and after
awhile it starts to make sense to you. Unusual for someone your age
today. I suspect you know what to use in the gear case. If the strap
( part the connects to the flywheel that works the timer) has been replaced
it should have a hole going through it. The hole takes oil that passes
the upper main bearing and gets it over to the timer to lubricate it.
The gas tanks are prone to cracking at the welds on these as well.
Often the cracks will go under the mounting bracket where you can’t
get at them. I’ve been putting a couple of coats of Red Coat sealer
in mine hoping it will help hold them together. Back to the points.
The way the battery is connected determines which side of the points
will have the build up and which side will have the hole. By reversing
the + & – connection from time to time will do a lot to extend the
point life. You’re going to have a blast running that thing. I sure do
                      running mine.

I will have to put some sealing in the tank, as I saw a
few drops coming out from exactly where you said. I
have heard that it doesn’t matter the polarity of the
battery, but I did not know it could help with the
points, so thanks for the tip. I’ll plan on getting a
video of it when it runs.
