      I pulled the drive shaft out of the gears while doing the impeller 🙁 ….I’ll have to work at it to reinsert it but…..

      assuming the gearcase oil seals are gone (oil wise) is is it ok to just refill the gearcase with John Deere corn grease seing this is a non shifting gear case ?

        You’re talking about a 3hp Johnson JW series? Takes 80-90wt marine gear oil. To reinsert the driveshaft, shine a light down and move the gearcase around until the pinion gear is centered on the hole – then re-insert the shaft.

          Or hold the gearcase with the propshaft pointing straight down. Worked for me, thanks, Frank.
