Just got around to trying it out and it’s getting gas, the cylinder is loosening up (kind of tight before), but not getting spark. I think I’ll clean the points and try again tomorrow.
May 9, 2016 at 7:52 pm #36315Tried cleaning the points and I got a single pop, and then nothing. Any ideas? Maybe stuck reeds or a bad plug?

May 10, 2016 at 9:43 pm #36383I think they were a little stuck from sitting for so long, but it seems good now. I got a new spark plug and it’s running now, and pumping water good, but no matter how I twist the fuel mix, it won’t run right. Any leaner and it backfires, any richer and it stumbles and wants to die.
May 10, 2016 at 10:25 pm #36386The exhaust tube is also really hot, as in boiling any water that splashes on it. Is that normal?

Remember this when handling the motor after running.Ouch! That looks really painful Tubs and it’s in a part of the hand you use all the time. Ouch again.
On the bright side, I bet it made you really smart really fast! 😀

May 11, 2016 at 9:23 pm #36433Ok, I think I found the culprit. There was a HUGE air leak behind the carb, so I ordered some new gasket material make a new one. I’ll try to make sure not to touch the exhaust, or the spark plug for that matter. I learned my lesson on my crappy Elgin… Those things hurt…
July 17, 2016 at 8:12 pm #40397Just got back to the Waterwitch, I’ve just been so busy lately. I took apart the carb since it still wasn’t running quite right even after I fixed that air leak. Took apart the float bowl and a whole bunch of rust poured out… There was a little surface rust in the tank, but I didn’t think too much of it… Oops… Now it runs fine after I tuned the carb (I also didn’t realize there were 2 jets, I thought the other one was a drain…). Now my friend’s dad wants it to power his little 10′ aluminum rowboat.
