4 cyl Merc Filler Block Removal

      Need to remove a Quincy exhaust filler block from a Merc 4 cylinder block.  The filler block appears to be held in place with gray colored adhesive material.  Can anyone out there give me some advise on this?  Like to save both the block and the filler block.
