Hey friends, I have a 1941 and a 1955 Neptune Muncie. My 41′ is nearly complete but my coil is super weak (80 years old!) and I am not sure about my 55″ Haven’t been able to get that far yet. I was wondering, is there a way to convert to an electronic ignition without to many alterations? Yes it won’t be period correct, but I’d love for them to run! My 41′ coughed but I think that was all the coil had to give. Points and condenser are clean and good.

      Thanks

Could you give us the model numbers on these two motors? Muncie used several different magnetos over the years. Are both these motors single cylinders?

Hi jcrigan. The 1941 Model no. Serial 43487 Model 11 B1 AC1B and the 1955 Model-AA1 serial no.J318UU Yes, these are both single cylinders I can give you the magneto numbers on both plates. The points are good, but my coils are disintegrating, so they have no life in them.

          Thank you

I believe the earlier ones were Wico coils and the newer ones were Phelons. They may be interchangable. Because of size the OMC coils may not fit without hitting the flywheel. Have you tried contacting Doug Penn to sée if he has coils for these? If not, maybe a lawn mower shop would have something that would fit.
