March 10, 2022 at 10:06 am #255923As for the SKF seals I used in my 4423-4425 motors, it will be seven years soon with no leaks! Mind you, the 4423 hasn’t been started since that video and both motors are hanging in the rafters. I wish I could say the same for my three horse Gay Buccaneer which drips constantly making a mess on the ’57 Big Twin which is parked directly under it.

Mumbles, I re-read the link information regarding the seals, and see
that it was “you” that used the 5523 and 4770 seals. Hence, I ordered”
two of the one seal, and made an offer on two of the other seal.
This motor had “grease” in it. Is it suppose to be “gear lube”?Prepare to be boarded!
March 10, 2022 at 12:53 pm #255938If your motor has a ball bearing on the driveshaft right above the pinion gear, then it uses oil. The new seals will keep the lube oil in.

Thanks Mumbles, I do indeed have a ball bearing hiding below the
DS seal. I’m guessing my PS seal leaked and someone decide grease
was the way to go. The PS seal was pretty chewed up, most likely
from fish line.Prepare to be boarded!
