I am restoring a 1946-47 champion 4.2 hp single. The condenser is bad and cant see anywhere on it where it shows the microfarad value. Any help on the correct value or where I might find a replacement would be great. By the way, the mfg is Bendix. Also, the coil seems to be good but the phenolic resin surrounding the coil is bad. I am planning on recoating it but would like to find a replacement for that also.

      Thanks, Ronnie D

Ok thanks. It’s probably good then. It tested at .2 uf.

Capacitors can sometimes measure the right capacitance, but become electrically “leaky” at higher voltages. If you don’t have a tester that tests for leakage at 400 volts, I’d try it and see if it works, but if you have weak or no spark, it still can be bad. I use a Heathkit Capacitor Checker from the 1960s that I assembled back then when I was a teenager. If anyone out there is interested – these come up on E-Bay occasionally.
