Head runs great, has water pump problems. The rubber pump looks good and not worn that much, I need to replace seals for prop shaft and gasket and drive shaft pipe. not much info out there on these as these models are also use by gale and others. Some tips would help.

The impeller (properly called a "rotor") swells up from grease leaking out of gearcase. It should be a close fit on the eccentric and just touch the housing at some point on the outside. The other side should have a space "about" 1/8". As the shaft rotates that space progresses aroung then disappears at the outlet side. Then picks up another gulp of water as it reappears at the inlet side.

It is an Oilite bushing, meaning it is porous–like a sponge. So the grease liquifies and goes through the porosity, right past the seal. I modify all mine by cutting the bushing back 1/4" and installing a seal right into the housing instead of into the bushing. There is an OMC seal that fits.
The seal on the vertical drive shaft is difficult to remove. There is a screw-in bushing that holds it together and most of them won’t come out without a fight. I just leave it alone and change the grease as it leaks.

August 30, 2016 at 9:49 pm #42972I knew if I said that, I’d have to look it up. No problem, it is 324639
August 31, 2016 at 2:27 am #42996yes that seal in the shaft i need to replace to. I am ordering 2 new rotor parts. The grease is heavy duty grease? That is what i will use.
The old rotor rubber is not a snug fit to the brass eccentric it is about 1/16 off but still moves the rotor, i guess not enough tho.
So if i take the bushing out like you did and put that seal in it would prolong the life of the water pump but the grease will still leak out the drive shaft after i fix the bottom end. All in theoryAugust 31, 2016 at 8:58 am #43010If it is 1/16 off the eccentric, it probably does not have any (enough) space on the outside. That space is what moves the water.
Use Lubriplate 105 "Motor Assembly Grease" available from NAPA Auto Parts stores, or "Corn Head Grease" from John Deere tractor dealers.
August 31, 2016 at 5:15 pm #4305411/16" ID, and 1 3/16" OD, 3/8 thick is the rotors dimensions, and what do they run in cost $12
August 31, 2016 at 8:57 pm #43065ordered the seal, going to make new gaskets, and i might make new rotor.
September 4, 2016 at 4:39 am #43259after closer inspection the eccentric is more worn than i first seen, is there a source or a sub that could be used or am i out of luck. It still can be used but would like to find another.
