Putting my GG9014a carb back together. Cleaned it in and out, and I have a kit from Discount Marine that in theory should work for my needs (3hp & 5hp kit).
What do you folks do to replace or modify the fuel shutoff and speed needle packings? Both are intact in my carb, but appear to be obviously very old and I’m not sure they will seal? I did find some packings that might be what I need (see pics). Trouble is they are not rubber or an other malleable material, they are pretty brittle. (ask me how I know?). Ordered 4, now have 3, LOL. So does anyone know if these are intended for this use?
The kit (see pics) comes with a couple of o-rings, but they are a touch too small for the bores in question.
Everything else is pretty straightforward.
Only other ? is the gaskets. My carb did not have a gasket on either the float bowl cover or the throttle adjustment plate. Should I install these or no?
Thanks!

The throttle valve never had a gasket, either. The main adjustment/primer needle gets moved so often that the original packing was made of leather for durability. I make my own from an old leather belt and leather punch. I tried o-rings and they are too sticky, hard to move.

September 16, 2023 at 12:35 am #280630Thanks for the wake up call Frank. I swear, I cant believe myself sometimes. I have the parts catalogue for the motor, but it never occurred to me that neither of those gaskets show in that book.
As I think about it, I ordered the carb kit prior to getting the book, but I did have copies of the ’49 pages sent to me by a couple of members.
In the final analysis, $41 spent for an $8 flange gasket. I think my wife might be looking to take my credit card away soon! LOL
I promise I will learn from this, just a matter of when.
