So I finally got around to pulling the prop and inspecting the rotor and prop shaft/gears.

Came apart pretty easily, and I documented every step with a photo of what came off and in what order (and direction). The rotor actually looks/feels good. That will make sense in a minute…

I get to the rotor eccentric and it slides right off. I took pics front and back so I know what direction it goes back on. I notice there is a keyway in the hub of the eccentric so I look at the prop shaft to remove the keyway. NOPE No keyway. The flat stop for a typical water-pump keyway is there, but no keyway.

I can’t see how the eccentric would/could do it’s job without the keyway, but I thought I would ask anyway. The parts diagram I got from Frank does not call out the part, unless they are calling it something I can’t think of.

If it does need one, does anyone have one or a source for one? I can’t search for one since I don’t have the part number.

I ordered a parts/service manual online last week, but don’t have it yet.

      Thanks in advance.

Is this the style unit you are working on?

If so, the missing key isn’t exactly a key, but a round pin, #25.  It’s quite small so may have gotten lost on disassembly or may have rusted away.  It fits into the square keyway machined in the eccentric  and is a bit proud so it will jam up on the flat area on the prop shaft.

A piece of small stainless rod or a piece of drill bit will work just fine. Only problem is the piece of drill bit will rust away over time.Gale-Water-Pump

Yes, that is it. I actually have the part number and didn’t know it. I found one very easily on ebay, but when I saw the picture of a round cylindrical piece I didn’t think that was it.

I really appreciate the quick reply.

P.S. – Is there a site where I can go to see this type of illustration for the entire motor? Great exploded view for troubleshooting, etc.

            Thx.

I know, I lied. Now it’s quiet time.

Gale didn’t publish exploded parts views till 1951. Here is the 1951 model 5S10.  Expect evolutionary differences.

John – here’s a pic of a new wobbler pump I recently installed on a Sea King.   You can see the new drive pin that fits in the keyway on the cam.   When I tore this motor down, the old drive pin had rusted away to the point there was little of it left.

Thank you for that pic Bob. Since my lower housing was semi-full of water I’m going to agree the pin was probably rusted away. My only exposure to outboards is my sterndrive leg I recently overhauled. (Merc Alpha Ong Gen 2). In those motors the pump impeller is held in place by a stainless keyway. (Pic below)

That is what i thought I was looking for. LOL

                      I appreciate the clarification Frank.

Two questions. Do you also have the full pic for the lower?

Also, do I remember correctly you are the person to contact regarding packings for these motors?

If so, can you provide for everywhere they came originally?

Also, as an example, I removed my prop and prop shaft last night. It appears that the very 1st piece behind the prop is a dense (fabric maybe) washer. The diagram I am working from calls it a clutch washer.

Do you also provide any replacements for these types of seals?

For starters, if you are able, may I ask which packing parts you can provide for the 94GG9014A carburetor?

                      Best Regards
