I am a newbie to AOMCI and totally wowed by all the great info here!

Question: Are there any Mercury fans who know when  the last year for a 15 inch short shaft 50 hp four-cylinder two stroke  Merc  was?

… Or if a 15 inch short shaft lower unit could be fitted to a 20 inch shaft motor?

… Or if Marier produced 50 hp Four-cylinder two stroke versions with short shafts in greater numbers than mercury did?

Thanks for any info you may have.

thanks for that suggestion. I and only heard of that being done with the Jack plate, which looks pretty heavy… The transom of my boat looks solid, but it was not that beefy to start with! I will try and upload a pic. Did you raise the transom when replacing the whole thing? Or just add a piece on the top somehow? Again, many thanks for your reply.

2 U channels under the clamps to correct height. then fill with correct wood and pins with glue and aluminum plate on the outside. worked for me on a 65 merc on a G-3

On the princecraft I made up a new  & higher wood transom (square on top) made of 2 x 3/4  inch    “7 ply”  porch  plywood with a angle iron across the top to replace  the original  curved (slooping)  top

engine was bolted up  & used cable steering with my home made steering box sitting on a forward bench
