Which colour would you guys normally paint first. Cream or Holiday bronze. Last 2 tone I painted was a sea mist green and dull aluminum. Shot the green first then masked the next day and shot the dull aluminum right on top of green. Worked great. But that was the only 2 tone I have painted.
so in short what’s the proper procedure for painting this cowl?

March 10, 2023 at 7:25 pm #273702Yes, I painted the cowl interior Holiday Bronze. While painting the exterior Bronze, I only applied a light coat over the side “wings” that receive the cream accent. Prior to painting the wings, I used steel wool to remove most of the bronze (nearly down to the primer) then shot the cream accent.

March 11, 2023 at 3:35 pm #273721Well bob that cowl looks awful nice! I have to ask, did you paint the 30 with a brush?
March 11, 2023 at 3:51 pm #273723Maybe there’s an easier way, but I used a thin-line vinyl tape to mask off the outer edge of the medallion and the “30” then used an Exacto knife to trim the edges, then spray painted the cream. Pretty meticulous work – one medallion came out really nice on the first try but the other one took maybe 3 attempts.

Bob,
Your motor cover looks at least as
good as new and probably better. On my
desk top I can click on the image and click
on it again to expand it where I can
really see the detail. Just outstanding.
TubsA "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
March 12, 2023 at 4:04 pm #273762Tubs – thanks for the note. There was some slight orange peel texture on the top of the cowl but overall I was very happy with it. Taping the edges is always the biggest challenge. I sold that motor some time ago to a young man who seemed like someone who would take excellent care of it.
