Hi everyone and thankyou for your time. I have a 57 35hp evinrude lark. It didn’t come with a electrical control box, is there any aftermarket boxes I can use. Also the internal wire harness is in bad shape, so I wondered about a replacement or new plug and wires any advice is appreciated.

eBay is a good source for finding parts for your Evinrude.

I’ve been on ebay and couldn’t find one for my motor, wasn’t sure if there are ones from other motors or years that would work. Does anyone know if evinrude used the same electrical boxes on othermodels?

I believe a 1958 or 1959 will work. There may be some extra wires (kill wires) and extra posts on the plug, but it should plug into your Lark. May need some modifications.

1957 Evinrude or Johnson are one year only with a 5 pin connector and had a push button to start. The following year they went to a 7 pin connector with a key start.

As Frank said nymarine has reproduction harness components.

They occasionally show up on Ebay or at outboard meets. There is someone who specializes in the restoration of 1957, 1958-60 OMC junction boxes. (Message me and I will give you his info)

Others bypass the control box and mount the solenoid under the cowl and rewire the system.

I always manage to buy the stuff with one year manufactured components lol. I believe that’s what I’m going to do, just eliminate the box for now and wire it myself. I do have one more question in regards with it. So I don’t have the external side of the wiring harness and the internal side the wires are dry rotted really bad. Any sudgestions for a standard disconnect plug that I could use to replace those. There’s gotta be something out there I can fabricate. Reproduction Ines are crazy pricey!you guys have been alot of help, very appreciated.
