Purchased a new ignition coil for this motor. When I removed the old coil the spark plug wire was not soldered on the coil.
Should the wire be soldered on the new coil?

Normally I would not solder to bendix coils. I wrecked one that way and have since just been wrapping about 1" of bare wire around the coil post.

I then fill with tune up grease in the rubber cover cavity around the post.

Agreed, do not solder. Just wrap.

Thanks. Did the wrap. As I am new to these old outboards, what is tune up grease. Wouldn’t grease be a conductor for the electric output and cause it to go to ground.

It has a high dielectric and helps keep the moisture out. Have you noticed the green stuff around the old connection? That’s where moisture has got in.

It comes in a tube. You get it at Automotive supply stores.
