I replaced the drive shaft leather seal or what appeared to be two
leather washers retained by an oversize split washer, with new
leather washers.
I was going to do the same for the prop shaft seal, but not sure what
kind of retainer it has. Not sure if the old hub will be re-used because
of the broken ear, but figured it would be a good one to practice on.
I can’t see any sign of the old retainer’s outline as the hub face is worn down.
I tried tapping down around the edge of the prop shaft hole to see if
one appears, but no luck. I’m assuming the prop shaft retainer is “not”
a split washer like the drive shaft retainer. Anyone know what I’m
up against before I ruin something? Thanks.
