Concerning my inquiry a few days ago, I decided not to take the Evinrude and Johnson motors my nephew offered me. They are too heavey for me so it would not be prudent for me to put money into something I didn’t intend to use on the lake. However, a neighbor had a 1962 Clinton J-9 for sale. This motor is in next to perfect condition and is all original and never been restored. It has great compression but I haven’t seen it run. Cosmeticaly, it is beautiful. The paint is perfect and the decals look brand new. My only concern was after 55 years was the rubber parts still good and not brittle but in checking, the rubber is in good shape. This motor was last run in 2005. I bought this motor for $275.00 from the brother of the original owner who bought it in 1962. The only thing is it did not come with the original gas tank but a plastic replacement. There is not a single scratch or dent on this thing and it doesn’t have more than 20 hours on it. It even came with the original owner’s manual which is also in perfect shape. The neighbor I bought it from is very reputable so I know everything stated is true! I’ve lived near this guy for years and never new he had this motor until he advertised it on the Post Office Bulletin Board.
I live in Wyoming and would like to know if this is a fair price and what is the general opinion of this motor. I would also like to know if there is an original gas tank in good shape out there and how much it would be. The fuel hose is a kind of grey color and I have heard some bad things about those and wonder what kind of hose is reccomended as a suitable replacement. I would also like a source of a service and repair manual for it. Any help and comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’d love to post a picture but don’t know how. Can someone tell me how and I will take some pictures and try. It will be a good learning experience for me. I do want to show everyone this motor.
