Trying again to post a little update as a test really.
Re-did a ’62 40hp Lark over winter and had it out on the lake for a couple of hours recently.
Really impressed with the smooth and quiet running of the engine, A big step up from the RD’s I’ve been running for years.

Upon post-cruise inspection I noticed a little evidence of oil under the flywheel and suspected the usual culprit of a worn top seal. During the “refresh” I had put some light oil around the seal-to-crank interface, cranked it over and all looked good.

Re-popped the flywheel for a look-see and found the possible source of the oil…..The oil drain line was hard and loose on the upper nipple, so swapped it out for some fresh 1/8 thick walled fuel line.

I think this step will become part of routine!

Haven’t had a chance to get the boat out for a real test run, but all looked good after a brief stint on the “muffs”, so here’s hoping.

Will also try to submit a pic.

Thanks for the tip! I have a ’61 40 Lark that I revived from the dead a few years ago. I’ll keep an eye on that oil drain line.

That line is not a drain! It brings oil up from the lower main bearing to lube the upper main bearing. There is another drilling in the upper main bearing that directs the extra gas/oil mix to the carburetor side of the reed valve. If the line is unhooked it will spill gas/oil mix all over. It is easy to plug the drain to the carburetor with to much sealer on the reed gasket. OMC and other manufactures have this lube system and it normally works good.
