Hi all – hoping someone can comment on an issue I am having with my ’62 mere 700 FGS.

When accelerating as I am pushing throttle forward, she gets up to speed for 10 seconds or so, then speed backs way down, without me touching the throttle…. back in nuetral, she allows me to get up to speed again, and then the same thing -the ghost backs down to 10 MPH or so….Could it be coils/condensors? (I didn’t replace those) something in the distributor?? could it be as simple as old cables from the throttle stiff and inflexible?? I have rebuilt all three carbs, both fuel pumps, all new spark plugs and fuel lines. Good compression on all 6. Otherwise, she starts right up and sounds good… any comments are much appreciated-

right – and then a carb adjustment to follow perhaps? or just momentary thing??

Saw this on another post.. do you agree??
"Usually when people talk about motors running lean, they are referring to the fuel/air ratio. Signs that the fuel/air ratio is too lean are things like; backfires at high throttle settings, hesitation when the throttle is opened, or the motor actually slowing down the more you open the throttle. "
If this is the case then perhaps I just need to open up the screws on each carb a bit more – would that correct it??

Well, after reviewing the master service manual carb adjustment and sync section(several times) it seems each carb must be adjusted while engine is under load.. hard to do that from my couch, but I’ll give it a shot on the lake sometime soon….
