I have a 9422s that has been in the family since new. I haven’t had it on the water in 10 years or so until yesterday. I replaced the impeller, points, condensers, fuel lines and totally disassembled the carb and put in an OMC kit. It started right up, trolled fine, and ran great at WOT. The problem was, that it felt like it was dropping a cylinder at 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. Compression is even at 65 lbs on both cylinders. I have rebuilt tons of small OMC motors, and never had an issue like this. I’m not a big fan of the 9.5’s but would like to get this one running 100% since it is the motor I grew up with.

OK, I figured it out. I created my own problem, left the roller off the carb linkage. Runs much better now in the tank, I’ll try to boat test it tomorrow if it stops raining. Should have a little better top end too I would think since the throttle wasn’t fully opening.

Glad it was that simple…And yeah, that 9.5 has a very strange carb roller linkage, easy to mess up, and break!

Keep in mind that just about every outboard has one speed where it will not run smooth, and that is the speed wherre the carb transitions from idle jet to high speed jet. When you are right on the border between these two, it will likely miss a bit.
