I was actually buying another motor from a guy and I talked him into throwing in this motor also. Can anyone tell me the correct spark plug, and any other tune up info. Thanks

Spark plug H10J (or H10C, nowadays, at .035. Points at .020. Hope you don’t need to replace the impeller, it’s an exercise.

Thanks for the info. Got some plugs, cleaned and set the points, its got spark and compression and shifts through the gears. Now I have to deal with the fuel pump 🙂 .

I believe you’re about to discover one of the fringe benefits of the ‘low-profile’ : You can’t do much of anything with it without pulling the powerhead
first. And if you’re going to do that, might as well do the impellers too..

I was appalled at what was involved getting at the lower unit on the early models. But I’m not sure–didn’t they put in a shift rod disconnect later on? I still didn’t like them. But some people do, so what can I say?

Book says to remove starter and flywheel to get access to the screws holding the power head to the tower. If memory serves, those are really screws.

My own (faulty) memory hints that removing the mag plate as well makes it a little easier to get at one of those things. The parts manual says there are nine of them.

You also need to disconnect the shift setup…

I’m pretty sure somebody uploaded a Sears outboards repair manual – that would have the service info you need. But I don’t have the link, somebody ???

Thanks for that down load Wedgie, but I am having trouble accessing it. Is there something I need to do to get it?

                        Hey Jerry

You need Adobe pdf viewer. https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

Anybody else having a problem downloading and/or opening the file?
