      Gents,

I just acquired a ’66 Lightwin that I intend to use a back-up motor, and as such, I was thinking about setting it up for a remote tank (it has the mount for a fuel pump on the powerhead). I thought I remembered past discussions about needing to change out something in the carburetor when switching these over to remote tank set-up from gravity feed. Did imagine that or is there indeed something that needs to be modified?

Also, where the heck do you mount the fuel fitting to connect to the remote tank line? (Note, this has the later style transom clamp with only one thumb screw.)

      Thanks,
      JP

Some motors do require changing the float valve, but I don’t think the Lightwin is one of them.
Dunno about the fuel connector. I’ll have to look into that.

Look on the side of the front carrying handle on the starboard lower cowl.

The fuel fitting goes on one end of the carrying handle. No float change. Part no. 381475 for the entire kit, which includes fuel pump, shut-off, fuel conx., and hoses. My supplier could get the kits cheaper than just the fuel pump alone. I used newer fuel lines, though.
I figured with a 12 gallon remote, I wouldn’t have to fill up all season. However, with the condition of some of my running stock that amount would go through several motors.

This shows the connector mounted to the carry handle.

Here are the diagrams to have a gravity tank system and a fuel pump external tank system. Going to convert my 1964 Evinrude 3hp to gravity tank and fuel pump with external tank system in the next couple of weeks to give to couple of work buddies. They fish from a canoe and paddle all over, so this will be a nice treat for these guys and their kids.

Didn’t someone (FrankR?) show a recent conversion of this sort using one of the new fuel connectors that has a build-in shut-off (when the hose is removed)? It seemed neat to me at the time, but the manual shut-off seems like a good thing as well!

Each has advantages. The self closing connector allows you to use a three way valve as a shut off making it simple to switch tanks. With the two shut off factory kit you can use the motor to run the fuel out of the carburetor. Doing that, of course, requires you fog the engine prior to storage. . . 😀
