      Hi guys,

Anyone have a prop pitch/diameter factory recommendations for a ’68 100 hp Johnson. Currently running a 12 1/2 x 16 and seems to rev high. The spare prop that came with the boat is a 14 x 18 but is too banged up to use.

      I appreciate the help.

      Thanks,
      Paul

It depends a lot on the boat and what you use it for. At the site below, find your motor in the table and look at the top of the chart for a key to the abbreviations as to which prop to use – it’s not a factory thing but it’s pretty good. Best way to tell if you have the right pitch prop is with a tachometer to see if you are in the factory recommended RPM range at wide open throttle. The site address says Evinrude, but same as Johnson – you knew that – I’m out of here!

          Michigan lists PR111 12 1/2 X 17 and PR113 12 1/2 X 18, three-blade alum, also a couple brass racing props AJC223 13 1/8 X 18 and AJC225 13 1/8 X19 two-blade brass..

But like the man says, hard to tell what’s what without a tach.

            Dave and retiredoz,

Thanks for the replies. Will get the motor hooked up to the tach so I can see where I’m at.
