First few numbers of this model number indicate the HP in this case 5.5. I958.

My 1958 Fisherman 5.5 is a 5516 model, and the 1957 Fisherman is a 5514 model. The Evinrudes that I’ve seen, have all had 4 digits for the model number, then a dash, then a 5 digit serial number. It seems that changes within a given year of manufacture were handled by assigning the next consecutive 4 digit number to the updated model.

The 7.5 Hp Fleetwins that I’ve seen, all start the model number with the numbers 75 for the first two digits of the four digit model number. So it would appear that the model number that starts with 55 = 5.5 Hp, and the model number that starts with 75=7.5 Hp.

This information is for 1954-1958 motors, so not sure about other time periods. As fleetwin mentioned, a few pictures will tell the story.
