So I guess I have a lot of things to check out . Lot people are pointing to fuel problem . I can rev. the snot out if it sitting in drive way (connected to water) and it doesn’t break down . I would think if electrical it would happen . The thing is after 1/2 throttle and quitting wouldn’t restart . That doesn’t sound electric . Bulb was HARD ALSO . I THANK EVERYONE FOR THERE OPINION . June 1, 2016 at 10:18 am #37510I don’t think the high speed part of the stator, [red wire] even if open, would cause a complete break down. But that will cause a severe bog. You will have to do some DVA meter tests to check the system. Bill’s squirt bottle method is the fast way to trouble shoot that. I have even let someone else drive while I set in the back of the boat to try this while the problem is occuring. This kind of stuff can be dangerous though…. be careful and use common sense.
June 1, 2016 at 3:53 pm #37547Is there any chance this motor is suffering from pre ignition in one or more of the cylinders?
You say it runs great on the trailer but stumbles and dies under load. Are the spark plugs too hot or the incorrect ones? Carbon buildup can also cause pre ignition or using old fuel can be another problem.
June 3, 2016 at 2:03 am #37628One of the things bothering me is I rebuilt this engine . After hearing about 2 stage stator when assembling the stator it has white coils and black . I aimed the white portion to wards carbs. front engine .You can rotate 180 d. I think its right but would this cause the problems. ??? I don’t think Dva would show if its wrong .
June 3, 2016 at 10:15 pm #37664Improper stator orientation can cause a running problem. Weather or not that is your trouble is hard to say… Did you clean and rebuild the carburetors? Replace the inlet needles/seats? How about the fuel pump? If not, they need to be gone through, especially since you have rebuilt the powerhead. I’m sure you know this already, but wanted to throw it out there… A lean running outboard is an open invitation to blowing a powerhead. Remember when fuel flow is obstructed, so is the lubricating oil that’s mixed with the gas.
