Model # J70TLCDC Ser. # J7132550. My son and I were final checking his boat before our trip north. The Johnson 70 stopped pumping water today. We removed the t-stat, still not pumping. Took 8 bolts out of L/U to check water pump but it only dropped 1/4″. Seems to be hung up with shift rod. Is there a clip or screw that needs to come out? Thanks.

If you look at the shift linkage back up top you will see a retainer clip. Pull that clip and push the shift lever toward the port side of the engine. Be sure to support the gearcase while you do this. The clevis pin will release the top of the shift rod and then the gearcase can be dropped. Going to try to send you a link for you to look at.
#87 is the clip & #69 is the clevis. Hope that helps!
