      Will the lower unit from a 1977 Evinrude 85 hp fit/work on a 1979 85 hp Evinrude? Are they interchangeable?

        There were some major changes – but I don’t know if that would make them incompatable. . . 🙄

          Different midsection because of different trim system. I believe even the shift is backwards if I remember right? So no it won’t work. Now 25" 1977 85 & 115 hp V-4s went to the new mid section a year earlier and would work, but are the newer style gearcase. Hope that doesn’t confuse you? It does everybody else. Be sure & look at the parts books. It was because of the all new 1977 140hp model that picked up the new parts.
