If you haven’t actually lifted the block off of the mid section yet (From your post, it sounds that way) then the toughest fasteners, the ones that hold the exhaust tube onto the bottom of the power head, are yet to come…..
While the block is off, you might want to give your upper engine mounts a fore and aft yank and see if they are solid. Failure of those uppers is the other 9.9/15 common flaw.
Long live American manufacturing!

But, he is playing with fire jamming a chisel between the powerhead and ex hsg mating surfaces, damage to both surfaces seems inevitable.August 10, 2016 at 12:11 pm #41865quote BillW:If you haven’t actually lifted the block off of the mid section yet (From your post, it sounds that way) then the toughest fasteners, the ones that hold the exhaust tube onto the bottom of the power head, are yet to come…..While the block is off, you might want to give your upper engine mounts a fore and aft yank and see if they are solid. Excellent point….It may be easier to evaluate the mounts before removing the powerhead by rocking the powerhead fore and aft.
August 10, 2016 at 6:47 pm #41874I got the powerhead off without damaging anything.Soaking the 4 exhaust tube bolts overnight with acetone/powersteering fluid, will use some heat removing those .The mounts you mention are at the top of the midsection, will check those out .Cleaning everything up today ,lubed the shift linkage.Anything else to check while i’m in there? As this is my first powerhead removal, your help has been great.
