OK, I think I remember how it was supposed to work now…Threading the rods into the housing, then drawing down on the prop nut pulls out the bearing housing and reverse gear/prop shaft as a unit….Correct??

They really are a result of lazy operators. I dont know which is worse; salt motors, or the ones that sit in unfinished basements, barns, sheds, or better yet, under a pine tree for 10 years.

At least the salt ones are being run on a fairly regular basis.

I use my Etec in salt throughout the year and flush after every use (run in the barrel for 10 minutes on fresh water, hose down, and bomb it with WD-40 at least once a month).

Guess what I found when I pulled the gearcase to swap impellers and pull the prop? No salt, nothing stuck, and everything clear in the screw threads everywhere.

Other than some salt leaching through the head gasket, I dont see any white crystals anywhere.

You got it Donny. However the prop pulls out clear withthebearibg housing, then you yank the reverse gear, clutch dog, pinion, etc.

Although one that I took apart today had a rear prop washer seized to the prop shaft (with no indication of any chance of removing it), so all 3 things are 1-unit now (prop shaft, bearing housing, reverse gear).

Great idea with stacking up the nuts on your puller bolts. I’ll have to remember that one.

Hit that prop spacer with an air hammer, I think that will pop it free…

I need to invest in more air tools.
