How do you replace plug wires on it?I don’t want to damage anything finding out.The coil appears to be intentionally "cemented" in place.Do I have to remove the coil or are the wires held in place by the Bakelite fittings?

If you go to the Green Boards and scroll down a bit to ’24 Johnson Model A’, T2 explains the procedure.

I found the cone type tapered washers in the faucet section that seemed to work well. You may want to soften up the black tar stuff with a hair dryer or heat gun to help get it out from around the coil leads if that’s the "cement" your talking about.

I’m working on a 1927 A-35 and have encountered the black tar cement substance. I’m always fascinated by old tech so I dug into this substance literally and figuratively! I found a 1937 issue of Motor Boating magazine with an article titled like something along the lines of keeping that old outboard running. The cement/tar substance was called Korite, the Johnson brand name for insulating pitch. https://books.google.com/books?id=WPI1A … te&f=false
