            Thanks Guys!

I did some work on my external wiring today in preparation of starting only to find my "great condition" external wiring harness to the junction box is actually a 1958 7 pin…won’t work. I recently saw a thread about a guy with a Johnson with the same issue. (He finally replaced the internal motor side harness).

I kept looking and found my original 5 pin ’57…but it needs work! Clearly, the connections on the junction box side show corrosion. I’ll try stripping the wires back to see if I can get to solid wires…we’ll see!

Looks brand new and your attention to detail is outstanding! Out of curiosity what was wrong with the original power head? Also paint looks great where did you buy it at? Bill,

What was wrong?? Well, it all started with a broken cir-clip I found in the bottom of the gear case…which a learned came from the carbon seal on the lower crank shaft. So I had to pull the powerhead. Once I pulled the powerhead, I took it apart to inspect…which I found a previous owner ported the exhaust ports. I had no idea how the motor ran, or if it ran well after the modifications. So, I started looking for a replacement block… I kept finding NOS parts, so I just kept going. I never intended this direction on the outset, but it was where I ended up…with the mind-set, "one cannot put a old crank in a new block." It just snow balled.

I kept the cir-clip as a memento to this project. In the end, it has cost a lot, but worth the education!

Oh the paint…I used PGP Del fleet urathane for the gray and dark charcoal…Omni for the cream. The gray and dk charcoal were from their books, while the cream used their color analyzer. I cannot be happier about the colors!

That is a really nice restoration. Did you ever get a replacement block, cause with the exhaust ports squared wonder how it would run and idle ❗ At least it looks like the bridge between ports was left but I wouldn’t have done such square corners, good the intakes were untouched.
