Only seen pictures of one.The design looks
to be for horse shoe magnets. I believe they
used a car battery as a power source. This is
my Stevens magnet charger.The adjustable
shoes are for doing flywheel and crankshaft
magnets but it wouldn’t be hard to make adapters
to do flywheels. I’ve had mine for over 30
years. After experimenting on many types of
motors, including some RBM’s, I have found
that I can increase the magnetism in the
magnets but that doesn’t improve ( or solve)
starting or running issues. Seems it doesn’t
take a lot of magnetism to make what ever
happens inside a coil to make a spark.
However the speed of the magnet passing over
the coil does increase the strength of the spark.
My intent is not to discourage you. Its a piece
of history worth preserving. Just my experience
in the recharging of flywheel magnets. .
A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
Thanks, got it all apart this morning and am off to buy some new wire as the old wire is severally cracked and some mouse damage. Probably spray a little paint on the inside after a quick sand blast to deal with a little rust from mouse urine. Do not plan to do anything on the outside – I’ll attach a couple pictures tomorrow when I get back to the shop. I can’t figure out how a mouse even got inside the only access is really tiny.
