      The biggest issue for that gearcase may be the lower driveshaft bushing….The 9.5s don’t stress the bushing like the 10hps, but you will want to check this first before spending too much time on this gearcase.
      It is very nice of you to be so generous towards these fellows, but this project might be a time and financial trap you don’t want to get caught in…

        A club member helped me out with a LU. It was a great big help. I really appreciated the deal he gave me on it. I got the motor running decently. I definitely wasn’t proud of my work but I think he can go fishing. I was never able to get it running as smoothly as I had hoped and it left here with a bit of a hiccup at lower rpms, but, with the deal I got on the LU and using other parts I had on hand when I could, he was more than happy. So, it all turned out great. I really appreciate all the help.

        I definitely need a LU tutor. I am intimidated. It will come with time though I guess.

          Cool! An economical gearcase replacement was the best way to go for sure!

            Mark, Have you ever had one of the 2-piece OMC gearcases apart? If not, do you still have the one from this motor that was replaced? If you do and you haven’t had one apart, take that one apart and see what makes it tick.

              I kept the old LU Ben. I was planning on playing with it some when school is out. It will help me wind down from dealing with OPK (Other People’s Kids).

                Excellent! I’m confident that once you know the skeg off of one of these, you’ll be far less intimidated. I understand the need to wind down from OPK dealings. 😉
