I got this Mark-7 in that collection of museum motors I posted pictures of in another thread. It’s an original paint motor, having several indicators that it’s low hours, including this tag which may indicate it was last run in 1959. The magneto was frozen from the melting coils. Also had a never fired set of champion J7J sparkplugs. Most crossover charts don’t even list that plug any more. I put some OMC style coils in it, an impeller from Brian, and in 2018 took it on vacation. Ran well but had trouble with the carb running over. Got home and found some dirt in the carb. Cleaned it out, did a barrel test, emptied the gas tank, changed the gear oil, and took out the impeller. It sat till Memorial Day weekend 2024. My son-in-law wanted to run it. Took it to 3 Lakes Wisconsin where gas just keep pouring out of the carb. Always take a 1960 3hp Lightwin as back up so we still had a motor. I found that the bolt inside the (original) fuel filter was rusty and pieces of rust was going into the float bowl. Going back this year and we are going to try again. Stuck the motor in my barrel and it’s running like crap. Started pulling plug wires and the top cyl. was missing. Connected the Merc-O-Tronic and cranked up the juice. Found I had a leak where the plug wire goes into the coil so I put the boots on. Had to remove some material to get them on but it seemed like the best solution to me. It seems fine now. Here is a short video. The blurry spot is where I dropped the camera and chipped the lens. https://youtu.be/IJKDs5suNo4
A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
