I have line on an Evinrude zephyr. Ive read that there seems that people either love or love to hate these motors. I like their uniqueness but also don’t want to get stuck with a turd. Can I assume that parts are tough to find? I’d like one in running shape, but seeing as it wont be a motor that I will likely use much, I dont want to spend much to get it up to par.

What do you guys think…good motors or wall hangers?

I had a pair of them some years ago. I placed an ad in local paper that read 4 cylinder
5.4 hp outboard…I got a number of calls that ended when caller realized the power
was correct 5.4 hp. I had them at a yard sale and one person very rudely dismissed them y
as old junk. A member of club came to my house and was glad to find the motors
were in such nice shape and complete or near complete. It all comes down to beauty
is in the eye of the beholder. OMC was very proud of them.

I have a couple. Very smooth runners. As I recall they sold over over 65 thousand. Actually more than the Johnson TN/TD five horse. But Johnson made more money because twins were easier to build. . . . . 😀

Actually Johnson made the first four cylinder two cycle. It was a V-4.

              Trivia Question – – Can anyone tell me the year? . . . 😆

                  I’ve never met a Zephyr yet I didn’t like! ☺

I have one complete running example and enough NOS parts to probably get two more together.

                    The year was 1910 –

It powered the first US monoplane flight in 1911 – A replica of there airplane is in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. It was also a first in using a tubular aluminum frame, which doubled an a radiator for the water cooled engine.

I’d love to pick one up if I found one for the right price
