I’m having trouble with getting a mid 70’s style 40 HP Mercury carb to quit leaking gas out of the carb. Tried multiple needles. I’ve been looking for a set of carbs for a couple of months and about to give up and junk the motor.

Anyone have a trick for fixing the seat on a carb?

Maybe your float’s not floating ?

could be the float is too heavy and not floating or the seat the needle is going into is bad.

The black, foam floats can get gas-logged and heavy, sometimes. New ones are hollow and white. Make sure the little spring is present, on top of the float, too.

Also, if running in a tank, make sure it’s not tilted too far forward. Those side bowl Tillotsons can’t take a joke, that way.

I use metal polish on Qtip to polish the seat.
