Those same bumpers were used on 54 thru 58 Johnson motors, all in the same size. There were also some 55 thru 58 models that used a bullet shaped bumper, also all in the same size.

Are there different sizes of rubber bumpers?????Good question indeed…I thought these were all the same, but have found at least two different part numbers that don’t supercede… Perhaps the Evinrude bumpers are different from the Johnson ones…I dunno
July 4, 2020 at 4:33 pm #207674Referring to this style and not the bullet shaped ones used in the front of the Johnsons that bobw mentioned…
I’m not sure of all the applications but according to MarineEngine I think the full round ones 203885, were originally used on Evinrudes for the sides of the hood. The flat tops 304461, are shown for the rear of the hood of Johnsons, but I’ve seen just as many full ones back there. I know we’ve probably interchanged or added a short length of hose to lengthen the shorter ones if need be.
And then there’s a 1/2 size 203455, that was used on the inside top of the hood on smaller horse Evinrudes that would fit into the concave area of the recoil to help center or position the hood properly and kind of keep it in place.
July 4, 2020 at 4:54 pm #207681I stand corrected. After posting my response above, I happened to start looking for the cowl bumpers for my 57 Fastwin project and found the half size 203455 that Steve noted. Learn something new on every project I guess.

July 4, 2020 at 7:22 pm #207707outboardnut, Yours looks like the flat top version and for whatever reason they changed the number by ’57 cuz RD-19 looks similar on MarineEngine and then changed again based on what NYMarine is showing…they really should notify us when stuff like this happens 🙂
July 4, 2020 at 7:42 pm #207712I was wondering if anyone had some kind of substitute for these bumpers?????
July 4, 2020 at 9:09 pm #207717outboardnut, The only thing I ever tried years ago was a truck tire valve. Pretty good match for size but it’s challenging trying to get a good enough grab in a vise to drill out the insides. I didn’t have a Dremel at the time, I do now, maybe it’s time to try again using that.
I know you’re looking for substitutes probably to cut down on the cost but I think Big Rich sells them for a reasonable price. Not knocking NYMarine, just that Big Rich is US so that’ll save a few bucks. -
