Great topic for sure….Seems like there is no hard and fast rule regarding which bumper is used on either Evinrudes or Johnsons… I’m sure I have probably mixed them up on some of my projects….

OK, so there are three types of these bumpers??

I was wondering if anyone had some kind of substitute for these bumpers?????

Awhile back, I bought a 1954 CD-11 that had replacement bumpers for the back of the cowl. The previous owner made his own by grinding down common rubber stoppers from the hardware store. The cowl fits tight and they actually work really well.

If you want to experiment, the front upper shock absorber rubbers from rear wheel drive GM automobiles will work with a little trimming. The cars where the front shock goes inside the coil spring. They are a little to thick and need to be trimmed off some. Use a little Caution! You can break the lock latch on Johnson hoods if these rubbers are installed without trimming!
