Will it work? Those points break easy.

NO WAY! They really screwed up that one . . . 🙄

November 20, 2016 at 1:49 am #47686Does it work?
1- Well it didn’t have a cover on the timer because the condenser
is too high -BUT- the mechanism was heavily coated in oily dirt and
the oil would have to come from the top main bearing along the
the strap. (No hole)
2- You can see some brazing on the shaft where he was making
adjustments to when the points would open (or close).
3- Among other issues found on this motor, the mounts for the coil
bracket are broken so he would have been using some sort of
battery/coil arrangement separate from the motor.
Does it work?
When you look at what has been done to this motor, how is it
possible for someone who’s limited mechanical ability could only
come up with this for a substitute fuel line be able to modify this
ignition so it would work? Maybe more than one person has
had their hands on this thing.
But does it work?’
Points look as though they’re almost new but with some indication
on the contacts that they may have been used for a short time.
When I first saw this I thought someone ruined a perfectly good
timer but I have come around to this could possibly work. Not as
the Atwater Kent design but more like a battery, points, distributor
ignition. I got this motor for parts so it wont be repaired but I have
others and at some point I will find out if it does in fact work?
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Checked another motor with its timer centered over the
mixture screw to find the flywheel position when it fired.
Positioned this timer same as the other motor and rotated
the flywheel till the points opened. Exactly the same spot!!!
Although you wont be able to start it by turning the flywheel
backwards as you normally would a Super Elto, by spinning it
forward or using the (missing) rope sheave it should start
and run. Amazing (to me anyway).A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I also am amazed – they got it running without using the old standards, bailing wire & duct tape. . . 😆
