working on my winter project 1965 MQ 9.5hp both coils read open from the plug booths

one coil was bad (cracked) one coil was ok at 6.5kohms but….both plug wires were dead

a quick autopsy showed why …. broken in the bend under the mag plate

booth prick pins were shiny clean but same break identical corner on the wires !!

snipping a quarter inch of to remove oxydation won’t always work

Plug wires are cheap, well reasonably cheap. May as well change them when you’ve got new coils going in. I’ve had dead ones that I couldn’t find the break.

this dormant MQ must have slept ….quite a while… found broken primary wire under the cracked coil

mag plate all cleaned up & rebuilt except for caps and points which I suspect are quite good ..to be tested when ice is out next spring 🙂
