Facts:
1956 25 Hp Gale
1.Gear case is not yet mounted to exhaust housing.
2.The motor fell over and bent carb needle but I don’t think this has anything to do with problem. But thought I should mention it.
3. Stop link assembly is pushed in as far as it can go.
4.I put a different mag plate on and still have same problem.
The problem is that when the motor is placed in neutral the shifter lock does not engage the proper notch(number 1 on example picture) on the stop link assembly. The end of the shifter lock is blocked by the point of the stop link assembly (number 2 on example picture)
Your thoughts?April 21, 2022 at 6:56 pm #258690Al, please post a picture of the throttle cam roller when in first picture position “in-neutral”.
April 21, 2022 at 6:57 pm #258691I think 2 is neurtal stop and 1 is reverse stop.

I agree. Cam roller verifies it (throttle limit for start-in-neutral position)
April 21, 2022 at 9:13 pm #258718Re: “other motors”. If a guy is mean enough, he can bend the shifter lock bar which may cause the improper condition that you think is normal in your other motors. How? by forcing a shift to neutral on a non-running motor in forward gear. Gotta back the throttle off before it will shift out of forward without forcing it.
April 22, 2022 at 6:43 am #258727Common sense tells me I should listen to you guys but I still think the second notch(number1) is neutral.
I’m going to go see if the shifter lever is bent.
I have another idea also but before I speak about it.I will do some sleuthing.
I do want to express that I respect all your advice.
This message board is great.April 22, 2022 at 8:59 am #258733shouldn’t the notch on the cam be closer in to the roller at neutral ….neutral being somewaht close to starting position
was the cam mounted on it’s proper mounting bolt position under the FW ???
or… mag plate not mounted properly … everything looks off-set
is this a new sudden problem ??? ….after a re-assembly of the mag plate ??
