      You should be OK but don’t use reverse.
      will it go into reverse without the cables attached?

        Adjust the shift cable to push the shift linkage further into reverse.

          I think he has no more adjustment.

            Thanks guys. Correct, the cable seems to push the lever all the way back, though I can try it with the the cable removed

              do so. if it goes into reverse then the problem is in the controls. if not then the problem is in the shift shaft most likely

                Hey guys, just got my
                Motor back from the shop. My mechanic had a good lower unit, but now the reverse lock doesn’t work. 🙁

                Any thoughts?
