Yup. I guess I should spend some more quality time with my motors and get to know them better.

So the TMD does have a shutoff, it is on the mag lever and grounds out when it contacts the stop on the throttle rail. (see photo below) It is on a screw that is isolated by phenolic washers. I tried to get a photo of it through the fan from the top but the camera wouldn’t focus down to it. (I don’t have time right now to disassemble it for a better shot.) Attached is the best photo I could get.

I can’t identify the parts in the manual, but then I don’t even see the mag lever in the manual! I’d guess the parts to be as follows from top to bottom: Nut, wire connector, spring, washer, phenolic washer (this slides on the throttle rail), another phenolic washer, phenolic isolater through the mag lever, phenolic washer on the bottom of the mag lever, #10 screw.

          Thanks for that Lotec
Your pictures are not showing up on this end, but it sounds like the same set up on mine – IF when you say "mag lever" you’re talking about the throttle lever.
That said, the only way I can see this working is when I push down on the spring loaded wire connector and ground that connector to the throttle rail and cut off the engine, not when it is slid all the way to the end..

Anyway,at least I know what its suppose to do now instead of wondering what kind of mystery jury rig it might have been!

          OK two more question:
What is the torque on the cylinder hold down nuts?
And lastly, can you guesstimate how many turns out I should set the "rich/lean" choke knob?

That should just about do it and I will be ready start it. About as excited to see if it will run like a kid ripping into a Christmas present!

Oops, now the pictures are up! It looks like yours is stock and mine has been fiddled with.About the same deal though so will see if it works.
            Thanks much!

OK I’ve been thru all the information again and am seeing NO torque specs at all so will rely on my trusty Grunt Torque Lever. I think these nuts should get about half a grunt..maybe a bit less. Will run it up to operating temperature, let it cool down and then retorque.

All that’s left is installing a replacement gas tank elbow fitting (to carb) as it was missing.LUCKILY I found a proper replacement in the plumbing section of Lowes. It’ s a 1/4" brass elbow fitting.

Keep my fingers crossed that the magneto’s are good and the wires won’t present a problem as one of them is showing some dry rotting and cracks in the rubber jacket.
