I’m struggling with black stubborn packing nut material in a carb I’m rebuilding. Trying to mechanically remove the old packing
and not having much luck. Then I realized there must be some experienced lads out there that might share a tried and true method
or particular solvent that dissolves these things. I look forward to your comments…..Guy Schmidt

I oftentimes skip trying to pull out the old packing for fear of introducing debris into the mixing pocket, usually just add fresh packing over the old stuff… Will definitely try Bob’s suggestion during my next hot ultrasonic cleaning though

situations I might try your suggestion.

A hot ultrasonic soak would likely be the best solution. I don’t have an ultrasonic so my hot crock-pot method was my alternative!
