What are you guys using for media if you do blast for paint prep . I have like a medium coal slag I got from Northern Tool . It works but it takes a lot of sanding afterwards ..

There are many choices of blasting media out there ranging from aluminum oxide to walnut shells.  I have found that aluminum oxide is the quickest and most effective blasting media.  However, there are a number of down sides to aluminum oxide.  It wears blasting nozzles and vacuum motors faster than other media.  It also leaves a rougher surface than other media.  The other media I prefer is glass beads.  It works well on aluminum parts and leaves a smooth finish.

I have been using glass bead media with good results.  Others swear by walnut shell media.

I use plastic beads from Tip tool on all my aluminum blasting with excellent results.
