Indiana isn’t too bad, you get a form to fill out,
a police vin check , then pay a fee and get your tags.
When my wife’s grandpa moved his boat back to Indiana
I found the vin tag but it was a stick on foil tag. I wiped
it clean and wiped the numbers off. The police officer
wouldn’t pass it that way and said to look the trailer over
and see if it was stamped in the frame somewhere.
So I pulled the spare tire off and stamped the numbers
into the tongue, rubbed dirt in it and passed the vin check.
In order to claim a “Home Built” trailer you have to show
receipt’s for all material used to build it.

Interesting stories guys. It’s just amazing how creative these bureaucrats can get in their efforts to either rake in money and/ or deprive law abiding citizens of liberty… all for some chicken poop 100 pound trailer. One more bit of interesting info from Michigan…
I recently learned that we can register a trailer under historic plates, just like with automobiles. I think that it was about $35 for a permanent historic vehicle registration. So now my 1957 Thompson’s old Pamco trailer sports a 1957 Michigan Trailer plate.
