Picked up a 6hp Mercury at a garage sale this morning.
      Its a Merc 60, serial#1441188.
Where can I find a serial listing for older Merc’s?
This is my first Merc. How hard are the water pumps to work on ?
This motor has been sitting for 20 years. And he said it ran when it
      was put in storage.
      Thanks for any input.

Nice find. They are not that hard to work on. I had one 3 years ago and replaced the water pump and it ran well. finally sold to someone who uses it regularly. Be sure when you drop the lower unit it is forward. That makes it easier to get the gear foot back on.

oldmercs.com has serial number listings. It seems to be a 1961.
The water pump is dirt simple to replace, although I was given the tip of turning the motor on its head when you put the LU back on. And for sure, have it in forward. It is nothing like the earlier models for water pump replacement. No special tools needed.
          I have S/N 1412843. Sweet running motor.
Taking nothing away from other suppliers, Ferguson-Poole gets my vote for parts. I have bought many from them.
It takes a special small fuel connector. If you didn’t get a tank with it, you will have to buy the fitting. They are still available new from F-P.
