trying to use  the  “new pump kit” gasket for a 5.5hp CD   but the new gasket  if  oriented to match the curvy part of the base  will block the water channel from the GC …

I am cutting spare ones from gasket paper using the new  gasket design but… for some reason doesn’t feel right

Has anyone tried using the new  curvy  looking gasket pattern under   the original pump body on a Cd 18

my old pump body  looks fine but I am just trying to cut myself some  ” cheap ” gaskets  to go under the pump’s lower plate where the oil seal fits in

like I said… just brain fog

          edit… again

notice the original  gasket in the parts diagram vs  the  new style  orange  gasket … where the curvy loop is it will line up with the upcoming water channel but…. the curvy loop does not link up to the main gasket  to form a complete circle to seal off the oil from the GC . ??  AM I wrong ?

I will cut  new gaskets  leave the curvy loop section but close  off  the missing ling to the main gasket body  see next edit ….

OK, well that orange gasket pictured is for the new style plastic hsg/SS liner water pump, this gasket fits between the plastic impeller hsg and the SS impeller plate.  That gasket should not be used in between the upper bushing seal housing and gearcase hsg.  The original gasket 303339 is still used and has not been superceded.

All that being said, I am often frustrated by the design of the 303339 gasket that is sandwiched between the upper bushing/seal hsg and gearcase.  Why the heck is the OD cut back like that!  Doesn’t make any sense, and makes it super hard to seal that area properly.  Anyone that wants to reproduce these gaskets properly with the OD of the gasket covering the complete mating flange of the gear housing will get financial support from me and an order for 100 of them!

As mentioned, the orange gasket is from a  a  later model 763758  kit and can’t be used with earlier model pumps.  It goes between the wear plate and the housing on the later pumps. One nice thing about these pump kits is they will fit motors going back to ’54.

Here’s a pic showing the gasket over the impeller wear plate.

                      feel so brain silly now…

thanks for   the gust of wind it is all clear now.  (No instructions came with the  “new kit”)

As to sealing the “underside”  with a 303339   copy,    I’ll be using  the curvy gasket  as a model  while leaving in the  ” missing link”  of the curve. This   will  surely seal off the oily section  from  it’s the impeller water  routing  duties .

1/32 inch   home made gasket paper should be  fine   but can’t  vouch for results till Spring time   …

no reason why it would not work since  the modified  copied…curvy gasket as how in   quote # 273197  becomes a look a- like to  a   303399.  I’ll  make certain the  GC  water channel lines up.

Problem solved …:-)  I,ll post pictures asap… Casino day tomorrow 🙁  can’t work on my CD .

                      Big thanks to everyone 🙂

I’m assuming the water pump kit you bought was not on OEM/OMC/BRP kit.

What I think I’m hearing you say is that you modified the new style impeller hsg gasket so it fit/sealed properly over the water passage on the underside of the upper bushing/seal hsg?  Am I hearing you correctly?  If so, I may have to investigate this substitution/modification to resolve a frustrating issue!  Let me know, thanks.  Don
