A while back, I obtained a Briggs & Stratton outboard motor, this motor has a forward and reverse, but there are no sheer pins, what I need to know is what happens should I hit a rock, without a shear pin, will I break a propeller? I never had a boat motor without shear pins, so I am scared to use this motor, which is a 5 hp Briggs & Stratton. Anyone know what happens if I had some thing in the water. Will I break a prop or user something else that’s going to happen, and what? I take this time to thank anyone who may be able to help me out and explained to me what will happen.

check the Briggs and Stratton ob motor page. May be an answer there while you wait. I was there and just not enough time for me . Brian

Looks like they use a rubber insert in the prop for a clutch.
