I came up with a 1936 eve nrude 2.5 alternate firing motor..i don’t have any knowledge of those old motors, appears to be all there except, the plug wire are broke off where they went into coil.Could I peel some off the covering off where the wires came out and put a short screw in both places to hook plug wires up and get fire from this coil..I only have experience on the 1950 s eve nrude an johnsons 5.5 , 7.5 an 10 horse motors…they are great..

You can try to find those wires and attach something
to them to connect some plug wires but I think you’ll
find it a bit of a challenge. Newer coils from other
motors that are still available have been adapted to
many earlier motors but I’m not sure what coil is in
your motor so I’m not able to offer a suggestion.
You may be able to find a replacement. Placing
an ad in the classified section or contacting a parts
supplier like Doug Penn (link Below) could lead you
        to a used replacement.coil.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

If you are up to the challenge and have steady hands along with good eyes, you might be able to save your original coil. In a single cylinder motor, the secondary winding is composed of wire thinner than a human hair and one end is attached to ground while the other end is connected to short length of braided  wire which in turn has a small terminal on it which the spark plug wire fastens to.  If your alternate firing motor has only one coil, each end of the secondary winding is connected to the two terminals on the outside of the coil, no ground connection. On this style coil, the ohm reading is taken across the two terminals to determine the condition of the secondary windings.

If one of the terminals is broken off, you might be able to carefully remove some of the coils outer jacket and find the end of the braided wire.  The broken terminal can then be soldered back on and the coil sealed with a clear epoxy. You have to be careful here so you don’t damage the fine wire winding which is just under the jacket.

These photos will give you an idea of what is inside and how fine the wire is.

Let’s go back to the OP,,, he said a “1936 Evinrude alternate firing twin” … something doesn’t seem right.  I think that we need a model number and/ or a photo of the mag plate. A 1936 Even twin would be an opposed twin , I think?? …  If so it’s not alternate firing and the coil is the “floating secondary type”. Not sure ,,, just asking.

I agree.  The only ’36 2.5 horse Evinrude I can think of  is the Sport Twin
and it was an opposed twin. Need that model number to confirm.
